I have always had the philosophy that I would start a whole bunch of sites in order to see what works.

My problem now is that I know what works, but I have a bunch of sites that kinda work.

I already shut down a few of my sites that were not working or I had no interest in. One thing I figured out is that it is tought to work on a site if you don't have any interest in the subject matter.

Now I am down to my best sites, but I still wonder if I should close down a few more and really focus on the two that are working well.

The problem is that the sites that remain are good domain names with potential. I enjoy working on them, but they don't seem to have the same revenue potential as the best two sites.

It is so hard to shut these sites down. I'm not sure if I can do it. I keep thinking that I might be shutting down sites that could become really good and profitable sites once day.

I think I will keep all of my current sites. I will probably have to tell myself that I can't work on the marginal sites as much, but I'll keep them alive just to kep them in the game. Maybe something will happen next year where the revenue of my best sites will allow expansion of my online efforts by hiring consultants or contractors who could work on my other sites. Maybe I will get a good search ranking and one of the sites could take off. You just never know when doing business online.

Decisions, decisions....

That is the worst part about the scattershot strategy. You start lots of sites to see what works and then you find yourself working on a lot of different sites.

I know it will be tough, but it is better to focus on what works. Even if that means you have to shut down a few of your sites.

The main problem is that I don't know for sure that the other sites don't work. I have been building them, but I never really gave them a strong time period of testing. It doesn't cost a whole lot to keep them around for another year, so now I am thinking I will keep them active and see what happens. A year is a long time in the online world.

Did I say above that I should pare my portfolio down to the two best sites? Yikes, now I am considering keeping eight sites.

I think the sites can all work.

My main problem is getting traffic to all of the sites. If I could find a good source of traffic, I have confidence in these eight sites.

Since it isn't very expensive, I'm going to try to fund all eight sites for another year to see what happens. One of my sites is doing well so maybe I can fund some traffic testing on the other sites. I would hate to shut down a good site and then find a good source of traffic a couple of months later.

As you can probably tell, I'm still trying to convince myself.
