I know. It is a good problem to have.

One of my sites was just launched and it already has a PageRank of three. I just bought the domain name not too long ago so it must have some mojo built into it from a previous owner.

What this means is that a lot of the articles I am writing on my site are getting ranked pretty well in the Google search results.

I'm not getting much traffic by posting on blogs and forums so I figure my best strategy is to write as many articles as I can.

It also makes me think that when I am searching for a new domain name, I should always look at recently expired domain names. I wonder if this could backfire though. Maybe some expired domains had owners who used all sorts of black hat SEO tactics. This might mean that my new site will be penalized before I even begin building it.

Has anyone read anything about an issue like this?

Hmmm. Interesting.

I just did a test where I searched whois for recently expired domains and then copied some of the domain names on that list (you can search for recently expired domain names by keyword) into a pagerank checker.

Most of the domains I tried came back as 0 pagerank because it said no site existed. However, I did find a few recently expired domain names with PageRanks of 3.

However, I then put the domain name into my browser and a website came up. I don't kow if this is the old site, a new site, or if the whois site was completely wrong in listing a domain that isn't actually recently expired.

I will take this into consideration next time I need a domain name. Why not? I would spend a few hours doing a test like this to see if I could find a recently expried domain name that had some pagerank and was available. It would be worth the research effort since most of us spend countless hours trying to build our online credibility.

Fortunately for you paul, you seem to have stumbled upon something like this without even trying. From all of us who start at the bottom, please take advantage of your good fortune and spend some time really expanding the site you have built on this particular domain name.
