I just read the article in Inc Magazine about the founder of Toms Shoes. I wish the article was more about the business and less about the life of the founder, but the article gave me great motivation.

I want to make a difference.

This is something I have always wanted to do. I have started many peace and political websites hoping to make a difference. The problem is that these sites took a lot of my time, energy, and money, but rarely made a difference. Arguing political points is a positive thing to do, but millions of people are doing the same thing and the real power is in winning elections.

I have been thinking about how to influence elections, but maybe I am thinking about this the worng way. Yes, elections are important, but I also have the ability to make a difference in people's lives without going through the corrupt and money driven political process. I can make a difference by helping people directly.

I love the story of Toms Shoes. For every pair of shoes they sell, they give a pair of shoes to needy kids around the world. This helps them go to school and avoid diseases. The founder of Toms Shoes is making money and doing a positive thing.

This is what I want to do.

Not with shoes, but with some other cause.

Good luck with your efforts. I like the Toms Shoes model.

For me, I always figured I woul dsucceed in business and then make some large donations to charity. I read a lot of business leader biographies and it seems like giving to charity is always something these people do at the end of their career with the money they have made.

The problem, of course, is that not everyone has success like Bill Gates. My hope to hit it big and then have lots of money to give away is fading. Maybe your idea of doing it at the same time is a good one.
