If your website or business has a page on Facebook, you can promote the page with a Facebook badge placed on your site.

This allows people to "like" your page on Facebook.

You get more people connected to your Facebook page and your Facebook updates will show on their walls. When they "like" your page, this update will be sent to all of their friends allowing a nice word of mouth referral to your site.

Here's the simple directions for adding a Facebook badge to your site.

I read an interesting article the other day about how the "like" feature on Facebook could become more important in the Google search rankings than links. Links can be bought, traded, and placed around the web by the site owner. This makes links a difficult barometer of how popular a site really is. The like button on the other hand is a pretty good sample of how many people actually like your site and are willing to give it a vote of confidence and a means of connection.

Recently there has been a growing chorus of skepticism regarding Facebook's efforts to reach throughout the web. It seems like not only can people share content from other sites with their Facebook friends, but Facebook can also share your information with advertisers. There has been a backlash about this and now Facebook has announced they will rewrite their privacy policy.
