Online Success And Failure

I am quickly realizing that I am both an online success and an online failure.

Some of my sites do pretty well and some of my sites are absolutely terrible.

The hard part is closing down the sites that don't work. I can't seem to pull the trigger because they SHOULD work. They just don't.

One thing I am learning is that sometimes things just don't make sense. I need to pull the plug on these sites and convince myself that the stats don't lie. Even though I like… Continue

Google Still Allowing Misleading Ads

I just saw a high traffic website that had Google ads on the bottom of the page. The ads were all for acai berry and teeth whitening offers. The domain names looked like they were from television news stations.

Since I have been doing online marketing for so long, I know that these ads are misleading scam offers. These are not news sites or real blogs or real testimonials. These ads are for free trials of products that are not very effective. These free trials start when you arder… Continue

Focus On What Works

One thing I am slowly learning is that I need to focus on what works.

Sometimes we can get stuck working on things we think should work even when they don't work.

The internet doesn't always make sense. Online newspapers should make more ad revenue compared to print ad revenue, but the online revenue is paltry.

I would think that financial sites would make good ad revenue, but they dont. I think this is primarily because financial ads are a little spammy. Also,… Continue

The Return Of Ning Network Creators

I'm happy to report that Ning has recreated the Ning Network Creators network.

This is great news for many people who have created networks on Ning. It is a great place to interact with other people who have created networks on Ning in order to share tips and motivation.

If you have a Ning Network, make sure you check out the Ning Network Creators… Continue

Sell Something!

I need to pound it into my brain that I need to sell something.

For too long, I have been building sites with the idea of profiting from ad revenue. Well, I can make a profit with ad revenue, but not a very big one.

Online ad revenue is not where it should be. Online ads should pay very well since people are taking direct action and can buy something immediately from the advertiser. Online ads should be far more valuable compared to print ads. The problem, of course, is… Continue

good advice.  most of them were hit pretty hard.   then again, most of us are so desperate for traffic we will try just about anything.   then again, doing shady things to get traffic will often lead to less traffic   slaps…

If you look at the stats, the content farms have gone way down in the search results.  If you haven't seen this yet or heard about this, please stop building content on content farms and start building content on your own sites.

My strategy is that if I am going to spend time building content, it needs to be valuable content that supports what my site is trying to do. If I do that, I am happy with what I am doing and hopefully the search engines will recognize my honest…

I can't imagine building a company like Squidoo or some other online company that relies on a concept that gets hit hard with new Google policies. We all are in the same boat, but I couldn't imagine having office space and employees…

The link farms make sense because it is pretty obvious that people are trying to game the system by selling links or by creating huge directories of links. The content farms are little tougher to figure out. Yes, I hope Google stops rewarding…

Goodbye Link & Content Farms

People who are trying to make money online quickly learn that the first rule is what works today probably will not work tomorrow - unless you are delivering quality content, products or services to happy customers.Everyone tries to chase the Google algo because free traffic from the Google search results pages can lead to lots of traffic and money. The problem is that Google continues to make changes that sometimes wipe out years worth of work. People who got used to lots of free traffic from…See More

OICUAM2 replied to Tom McCann's discussion 'Is Facebook A Good Business?'
I think Facebook is a good business only because it is Facebook. In other words, I wouldn't try to start a business like Facebook because there can only be one or two companies that make it that big. Even though they have 500 million members,…
