Add A Facebook Badge To Your Site

If your website or business has a page on Facebook, you can promote the page with a Facebook badge placed on your site.

This allows people to "like" your page on Facebook.

You get more people connected to your Facebook page and your Facebook updates will show on their walls. When they "like" your page, this update will be sent to all of their friends allowing a nice word of mouth referral to your site.

Here's the simple… Continue

A Problem With Online Advertising

One of the major problems with online advertising is that it leads publishers to focus on the ads instead of producing quality content.

The most extreme case of this is when you get to a page that is all ads. The website owner has basically trapped you in a dead end of ads where you can either click on an ad or back out.

When Google AdSense rules were changed to require some sort of content, web publishers started posting small amounts of keyword infested content that was often wrapped around… Continue

Sometimes Things Don't Make Sense

I made a change on my site today that made so much sense to me. It would make things better for my visitors and allow them to visit more pages.

After making the change, I watched my stats plumment. Visitors went to fewer pages and spent less time on my site. It doesn't make sense, but the numbers don't lie.

This teaches me again that I have to rely on my stats instead of relying on my rational thoughts. It also reminds me how important it is to have a good states program on my site.

It also r… Continue

Integrate Your AdSense & Analytics Accounts

I highly recommend that everyone should integrate their Google AdSense and Analytic accounts.

It is really easy to do. Once you integrate your accounts, you just put a piece of tracking code on your site on top of your pages before the first AdSense ad.

When you look at your Analytics account, you will then also see AdSense earnings information. You will be able to see what traffic sources and keywords are generating the most Adsense revenue. This is great information to have that wasn't avail… Continue

Advertising vs. Sales

I just heard a reporter from the New York Times talk about how little revenue they generate from their website compared to their newspaper even though they have more people reading the website. I have heard a few people from the New York Times use the same line as they say they get dollars from the newspaper and pennies from their website.

It seems like it should just be a matter of time before this evens out. People are used to paying top dollar for an ad placed in the newspaper, but are just… Continue

The link farms make sense because it is pretty obvious that people are trying to game the system by selling links or by creating huge directories of links. The content farms are little tougher to figure out. Yes, I hope Google stops rewarding websi…

I highly doubt it. First, I like the idea of doing it myself and being able to say I am a self made man who built something on my own. Second, I am a control freak who doesn't want o bring other people into my business. I don't even want other emplo…

Well said... Facebook is only a good business because they are Facebook. I like the features of Facebook, but I woul drather start a site around a specific topic.

That is discouraging. It might work now, but for how long? I just read an article by Ken Evoy about how he doesn't like SEO techniques because they never last. Very timely to read his comments and then to see this blog post. I suppose the rep at S…

Recently there has been a growing chorus of skepticism regarding Facebook's efforts to reach throughout the web. It seems like not only can people share content from other sites with their Facebook friends, but Facebook can also share your informati…

When I log into my AdSense account, I keep seeing a note from Google that I have the ability to show ads from Google-certified ad networks on my sites through my AdSense units. Should I do this? Google says that with more ads competing for the spa…

I read an interesting article the other day about how the "like" feature on Facebook could become more important in the Google search rankings than links. Links can be bought, traded, and placed around the web by the site owner. This makes links a d…
