I just wanted to let people know that it is possible to work from home. I have about ten websites that I'm working on and two of them are profitable. I have been doing this for a long time and there is a lot to learn, but it is possible.
I'm not a very technical person. My sites were not very good at first, but now they are getting better as new technology makes it easier for non-technical people to make websites.
I think the main lessons I have learned so far is to make good sites that people will want to visit many times. It is best if you can develop a site that causes people to get into the habit of visiting your site repeatedly. This can be done by having good content or by having a RSS feed or newsletter that reminds people to come back to the site once in awhile.
In order to make money, I use advertisg and some affiliate marketing programs. I have travel sites where I link to travel companies and if someone buys a travel package I get a commission. This type of affiliate marketing can be done in almost any subject area. If you have a hiking site, you can use affiliate links to sell hiking boots, camping gear, sunglasses, etc... The same for any other type of site. It is much easier to have people click on ads, but the commissions are higher if you can figure out how to get people to buy things through youre affiliate links.
Another lesson I learned was to focus on what the site visitors might want instead of focusing on how you can get your site visitors to click on ads or buy things through affiliate links. Think of giving your site visitors a good experience and the money will come.
Also, you need to have a lot of good content on your sites. When I started doing business online, my sites were just a few pages of content. Now, I have blogs and sites where new content is being added every day by myslef and my site visitors. This allows more pages to be built, indexed, and searched by the search engines. My old sites had about twenty pages, but now my sites have thousands of pages. Each page is a possible doorway through which search engines can send traffic to my sites.
