Learn How To Do Business Online

Do you make websites for oher people if they ask?

Since some people know that I make websites, I often get people who ask me to help them make a site.

The problem is that I make websites for myself as I try to make money online. I'm not a professional web designer who is seeking clients.

When someone asks me to make them a website, I desperately want to say no - and I usually do.

First, my time is limited and I need to be working on my own sites.

Second, I'm not set up as a design shop. I don't have the systems set up to communicate with people, bill them for charges I take on when making their site, etc... This all makes for a mental mess.

Third, a web project is rarely "done" in that even if it is a quick site. The people usually then ask how they get traffic or if they can have a new feature, etc... All of this takes time and effort away from my own sites.

Finally, sometimes I will work on a site for someone and then they won't take ownership of it. They never promote it or work on it. One person even let the domain run out becuase they didn't care or weren't getting the results they wanted.

It is like that old saying where you need to teach someone to fish instead of catching fish for them.

The problem is I don't want to take the time to teach them how to make a website and usually they won't be eilling to put the effort into it.

Do you take on side projects or do you strictly focus on your own sites?

I've had this same problem over the years. People think they want a website, but they aren't willing to put any wwork into it. They just want me to do everything. Working on other people's websites is not something I do. I have enough trouble finding time to work on my own websites.

Well, one good thing is that when people ask for help in making a website, they often don't even follow through enough to get the project started even after you say yes.
