Do Squidoo And Hubpages Still Work?
From what I understand, Squidoo and Hubpages worked really well for awhile to get traffic and backlinks. Do they still work well today?
Both sites allow people to make pages with information and links about a specific topic. Of course, this ability was abused by spammers so Google dropped many of the pages form these sites to much lower rankings.
Both sites seem to be making attempts to regain some of the rankings power they once had. There are a few searches I have done recently where a page from one fo these sites has come up in the top three search results.
I'm pretty sure these sites no longer provide the "link juice" they once did. I would imagine that Google has decided to discount the links form these sites since they are often posted by the people who own the sites being linked to.
Is it worth my time to make a bunch of pages on sites like these?

I'm not sure about the links and rankings, but I saw on the Squidoo forums that many people are reporting a drop in revenue from their lenses. However, a couple of the people said they were seeing lower revenue across the board from all of their online efforts. Because of this, people were speculating that the drop has more to do with the recession and less to do with the performance of Squidoo and Hubpages.
There also were people on those sites who said their pages were not experiencing downturns.

Well, most of the traffic I was getting into my new Squidoo pages were coming from Yahoo and now Yahoo just announced they will be using Bing results instead of their own. Otherwise, my Squidoo pages have not had much traffic or search engine success, but I know it can take a little while so I will contnue to put some effort into creating and promoting more Squidoo pages.

It matters what topic you are in and how well you can get people to click through to your site.
It is difficult to get your pages ranked high in the SERPs and then most people don't click through to your site. Seems like a lot of work to build pages and traffic for another site and company with only a small portion benefiting yourself.
I would rather spend time building content, links, and traffic for my own pages and sites.
