Learn How To Do Business Online

I'm trying to get advice for what the best ad placement positions are on Ning networks.

I use the right column skyscraper, but I also use the language editor to place ads in other positions.

I also found a tutorial on the developers network that shows how to put html ads in various positions, but it doesn't work with javascript ads.

I use the "notes" feature to make a bunch of content pages. I thought I would do well by replacing "notes home" text with a banner ad, but my visitors are not clicking on it. I tried contrasting color ads and ads that blended into the background color. I even tried link ads, but still no clicks.

I know that some traffic is not bound to click on ads no matter what placements or colors I use. I have a site where people generally click on ads once in awhile, so I figured I could test my way to a higher click through rate. It has been a little frustrating.

Has anyone had luck with putting a banner ad at the bottom of forum discussions by altering the "reply to this" text in the language editor?

I think it is a great idea to use the language editor to test ads in various positions in Ning networks. Otherwise you only can place ads in the right column and in text boxes on the front page.

Hopefully Ning will change the "manage features" page to allow us to decide how many columns we want and what size we want them to be. Most sites now have a medium size square ad in the top right column and we can't do this right now with our Ning networks. I also want the ability to have a header and footer ad section able to house leaderboard size ads.

Other than testing various placements, I have found that each site is different. What works on one site often does not work on another. Even if you get an ad that works on a site or page, the source of traffic is a bog factor as new traffic from a new source might not have the same click through rate.

My only advice is to keep trying new things and testing the results until you find something that works on your site. Good luck!
