Is anyone having success generating traffic by writing articles and submitting them to article distribution services?

I just heard about this and I'm not sure if it is worth my time to try it.

I guess it couldn't hurt to write a couple of articles and submit them to a couple of distribution services.

I guess the main thing to remember is not to post the article on your own site in order to avoid duplicate content penalties from the search engines.

I can see two main benefits from posting articles on distribution services. First, some magazine or email newsletter could pick up the article which would expose the article (along with the "more information link") to lots of new people. Second, the article service posts these articles online and they have better PageRank than most sites so these articles often rank highly.

I guess one downside is people could steal the content and post it without the link.

The other downside is that content I'm creating is being given away instead of being content that could generate search traffic directly to my site.

Has anyone tried article marketing? Any success with it?

Well, I guess the way I look at it is many people are writing articles and comments on big social media sites in hopes they will rank well due to the good standing these sites have with the search engines. So if you are going to spend time on these big social media sites trying to get a page ranked in the search engines, it might be beneficial to use some article writing techniques. Not only to get the article ranked in the search engines, but also to have a chance that the article will get picked up by a magazine or email newsletter and get distributed with your link.
