Has anyone had any luck doing offline marketing for a website?

I've tried advertising in magazines and putting up flyers around a local college campus. I got a few visitors from the college campus who were interested in what one of my sites was all about, but I don't think the magazine advertsing sent any visitors.

I think offline advertising will no longer be in my budget unless I grow big enough to do some brand advertising. Right now, I need to focus on direct marketing with measurable results. I think doing online marketing is the way to go in terms of direct marketing.

The problem is that online marketing is growing more difficult as Google and the other search engines get better at raising their rates and quality standards.

I only think offline advertising works for big businesses or local businesses tsargeting a very specific population.

A small advertising budget benefits greatly from advertising onlinein a very targeted and trackable way.
I haven't had much luck with offline advertising. I think your marketing money is better spent targeting people who are already online and can enter your site at the exact moment they see your advertisement. Asking people to go from offline to online is a big jump for them to make.
