Pay Per Click Marketing Success?
Is anyone happy with their pay per click marketing efforts? I love the pay per click model because I only pay for people when they enter my site, but I'm having trouble buying traffic. I mainly use Google AdWords and Yahoo so I think that is my main problem because so many people use those programs causing a high level of competition. I also bid on a lot of common and highly competitive keywords so that is another issue I am facing.
Has anyone used any of the second tier pay per click programs? I used to use Enhance Marketing services but that was years ago. I'll probably start testing some second tier pay per click programs, but just wanted to post something here to see if anyone has suggestions. I know people don't want to compete with more people so I will tell you that I mainly buy keywords in the areas of peace, investing, business, and travel.

I used to bid on lots of keywords, but now I'm bidding more on very specific phrases or words. My overall number of clicks being purchased is down, but the quality of the traffic I'm buying has increased.

Bidding on a smaller amount of highly targeted keywords is a good idea. I know that some of the pay per click programs consider overall campaign click through rate as a factor in determining your ad position and per click cost.

Plus you have a better idea about what type of person is clicking on your ad.
Someone clicking on an ad for "join travel forum" is different from a person who was searching for "jamaica resorts" and so on.
I have found it very helpful to be very specific when bidding on keywords and phrases.

I tried a few second (or even fourth : ) tier pay per click companies. I'm of the opinion that almost all traffic deserves a shot. Just make sure you have good analytics software so you know what the traffic does on your site. Keep testing. You never know what you might find.

Can you please share what second tier ppc companies you are having success with? Has anyone tried using Ask.com?

I tried Ask.com awhile ago and didn't have a whole lot of success. I know they have made some changes to their programs. They have started sending me emails trying to get me to try their service again. Since Google has a majority of the search traffic, I think I will spend some time trying to become a good Google citizen so I may be rewarded with some of their traffic.

I just read through Jeremy Palmers eBook about Google AdWords. He basically talks about his frustration with the new AdWords Qualtiy Score system.
I think a lot of us were hit by this Google change. Basically, the formula for buying ads on Google went from a combination of bid amount and click through rate to a new formula that takes in all sorts of factors including the landing page.
This is a good move by Google. They need to make sure that the ads lead to relevant sites so their users will continue to feel confident in clicking on ads.
For internet marketers, it is a nightmare because what used to work no longer works. Business is all about being able to adapt, but the changes and the speed of changes on the internet can be mind numbing.
